Yay-2 posts today and 1 of them is a video!! Woohoo! Who likes working with vinyl? I know I love a good vinyl project- but, sometimes I run out of transfer tape- and I am at a loss of what I can use– so today we are going to experiment with some other materials to see what else you can use in the place of transfer tape…and guess what…all of the ones we try are cheaper than buying transfer tape!! Yay for SAVING MONEY!
Since the video- I went out and bought more contact paper- but have not had a chance to play with it yet- I promise I will keep you updated if it works any better than the contact paper in the video! In the meantime, I am going to keep plenty of painter’s tape on hand! I am thinking of even using it for paper projects!
I’ve actually used regular ol’ clear scotch tape for small projects like you just did with the names. It works pretty well too!
I always use clear contact paper I get at Dollar Tree. Sometimes cheaper is better than the name brands!!
Maybe that is it! Ha–I will definitely be checking it out at the Dollar Tree– I didn’t even realize they carried it!
Wow this was so cool. Thanks for sharing. Can wait to see more!
I was so suprised to see you use Press & Seal. It looked a little hard to work with, but you got great results.Great video!

to removeink from your cutting mat, try purell or other hand sanitizer.
Another product to use as transfer tape is drywall tape, the mesh kind that you put on the crack o seam before you put the mud on. I haven’t tried it yet but have seenn it work in videos. Of course the mesh might be too large to do small letters like your names.
I like to use the contact paper when I’m placing one layer of vinyl over another and need to get it in a precise position, like eye’s on a character. It is tricky to get it to stick though. I don’t like the transfer paper for something like that because I can’t see where it’s going.
Thanks for sharing some alternative transferring options, I actually have the Press N Seal in my kitchen, but was saving it for special occasions, think that I have found that occasion…Hah!
Thanks for giving us some alternatives to the expensive transfer tape, I actually have the press n seal in my kitchen, but for some reason am saving it for special occasions! I think that I have found that occasion…Hah!
These are all 3 great ideas! Thanks so much for the video Sarah!

Thank you so much for this video. I am starting a vinyl business from home with almost no money for supplies and this post saved my business!
I just tried some Scotch brand painter’s tape. It picks up the letters, but then does not want to let them go. Maybe I should try the Frog tape that you had.
I loved the video. Very informative. I am new to crafting, so I need all the help I can get. LOL
I’ve been using Press N Seal for years to transfer vinyl but it leaves behind a sticky residue that I always had to clean off with alcohol. I just for the first time used “real” transfer paper/tape (Cricut) and loved that I didn’t have to clean up afterwards. Of course, it’s so expensive for my business so I’m looking for an alternative to real transfer paper/tape now. Any other ideas?
Thank you for this!! Will be trying all of these out.. looks like I’m going to the $ tree and grab a roll there as well!
I used painters tape and I struggled with it coming off.
Didn’t have any of the above. Washi tape works great!
