I’ve been meaning to pick up caramel sauce from the grocery store the last….oh 5 times….that I’ve been there. But, I ALWAYS forget once I get to the grocery store.
So, Friday night- I decided to just make my own caramel sauce or caramel drizzle 🙂 Which is good- because I just realized that Starbucks will no longer be selling their bottles of caramel drizzle.
I was sad at first, when I learned this–but, it really is for the best– because Starbucks sold their caramel drizzle for about $5 a bottle- and you didn’t get very much- my version is WAY cheaper and I know EXACTLY what goes in it…every single calorie 😉
Okay–here is what you’ll need:
1 cup of brown sugar, 1/2 cup of half and half, 4tbs butter, 1Tablespoon of vanilla and a pinch of salt.
In a saucepan, put half and half, brown sugar, butter, and salt – and let melt together, stirring occasionally. Cook for 5-7 minutes, without letting it boil too much- you don’t want to turn it into candy 😉 If it starts to boil, just turn it down a bit, and keep cooking. With 1 minute left, add the vanilla (I used homemade vanilla)
Then put in jars/containers/squirt bottles- etc- and try not to eat it straight from the pan! 🙂
It seemed to fill this pint jar perfectly–though, it was so good and easy- I wound up making more! 🙂
Wouldn’t they make the cutest, most perfect gifts this Christmas?
I added chocolate burlap to the lid, tied it with some raffia and added a stamped tag. I used the Tags and Treats stamp set along with a close to my heart alphabet stamp set.
This sounds yummy will definitely be trying this!
Mmmmm….so yummy! Thanks for the recipe. How long will it last and does it have to be refrigerated?
Yumm! Gotta try this! Love the jar presentation too!,

Yum I will make this for my oldest granddaughter because every time she go’s to McDonald she orders extra caramel. Thanks
looks so so so delish. to bad i cant make it .
I too am curious about shelf life as well as! And does it matter if its soft butter or hard butter? Or doesn’t matter it melts anyways????? Lol
The butter doesn’t matter- and I stored mine in the fridge- and it stayed good for weeks. You cannot keep it out of the fridge though 🙂
Tried this tonight with a few substitutes because I just moved and didn’t have any half and half or vanilla on hand. Used melted vanilla ice cream instead and it came out great! Thanks for the recipe!
Ooh! That sounds so yummy!!
