I love to die cut manually– I know–it sounds crazy–but, there is just something fun about sitting down (or standing) and using my Big Shot or Big Shot Pro–to quick make the exact die cut I need without any electronics!

Plus, then I could craft without electricity if I had to πŸ˜‰

Don’t get me wrong- I am not trading in my Cricut or my Gypsy– I just like the ease and simplicity of dies. Lots of people make dies–I have mostly Sizzix, a few Quickutz, and my newest addition are Spellbinders dies.

I didn’t try spellbinders, for the longest time–and then once I did I was hooked. Β You can use them in most diecutters. Β I use mine in my Big Shot- and they work like a breeze. Β  You run them thru once to cut, and a second time to emboss. Β I will post a video of this on tomorrow (Thursday) during the Spellbinders Holiday Hop!

So be sure to come back Tomorrow for the HOP– for Holiday Inspirations and prizes!

But for now–here is the card I made using the Mitten Die from Spellbinders Universal Die.

Don’t you love that Core’dinations Paper?? It made the stitching on those mittens–really POP!

I love Core’dinations and I can’t get enough of it!

AND–I am giving away Core’dinations Whitewash Paper stack, & Core Couture!

Don’t worry it works in the cricut too πŸ˜‰

All you have to do to win is leave me a comment telling me….if you prefer mittens or gloves!

I’ll announce the winner on Friday πŸ™‚

  • Oooh, I would love to win! I prefer gloves or fingerless mittens. Gloves are so lady like and I really wish that we wore them as often as our grandmothers did. They add such a feminine touch. Women were such “ladies” back then! Sarah, I have the first Sizzix machine and the Sizzix Texture Boutique. Do you know if I can use other dies with them? I’ve tried cutting with the Texture Boutique (even though it says you can’t) and I’ve found a way to make it work. Any tips to make it a little less hard on the machine?
Another question is, can I make other dies work with my original big ol Sizzix? Can cuttlebug dies or other Sizzix dies work with this machine a all? Do you have any ideas or can you help me with these two machines please. As always, I appreciate your blog so much and the card you made is beautiful, btw! Please post on my blog or shoot an email if you have a moment. or

    Thanks for your time,
    XO ~ Amy Jo

  • I am leaving a comment with my phone so I hope it worked! I can’t explain how perfect this post is for me, My power just went out! The wind is crazy! If I had to choose between mittens or gloves I would choose what me and my girlfriend call Glovittens which are the gloves with the finger tips cut off and a buttoned mitten top to the back of it so when your fingers get cold they start out as gloves and turn into mittens! πŸ™‚ Hope I win this great prize! Contact Info:!

  • First your card is so cute! I have to go with gloves, mittens are so cute but totally impractical when you are trying to juggle, keys,a purse, groceries etc LOL

  • Well if I had to pick for your card, I would say mittens, cause your card is so cute!! But for me personally, I would have to stick with my black leather, fur-lined gloves….much easier to manuever then mittens, and much warmer & dryer!!

  • To wear I’d have to say gloves. But mittens are adorable on crafting projects! I love your card – the stitching really does pop! πŸ™‚ Thanks for the chance to win!

  • I love mittens!!! That’s my choice, but I wear gloves because they are more practical. πŸ™‚ I live in Miami, so don’t get to wear them much… I love winter weather, so when the temperature drops … The gloves & winter gear come out. πŸ™‚
    Cindy πŸ™‚

  • Mittens, Mittens, Mittens!!! I loved the mitten card you made to the point I am on the hunt for labels 10 of Spellbinders. Thanks for the chance to win!

  • I love mittens, it reminds me of mine when they were little. Love your card too. I haven’t seen this paper, I have regular Core’dinations, they look wonderful. Thanks for the chance.

  • I guess I used to be a glove person, but with my arthritic hands and gnarly fingers mittens are more comfortable and warmer. But definately more difficult to do things with when you have them on.

  • Lovethe work you do . Thank you. But I have to sat I love gloves because it is easyier to use your fingers to pick up something.

  • I like gloves for the practical everyday use, but mitten are way cuter on cards and little ones. Wish I had a Big Shot. I have the original Sizzix machine and wonder if Spellbinder die cuts will work in that. I also have both sizes of the Cricut, so can not justify buying the Big Shot, may have to re-think that-ha ha!

  • I would have to say I prefer to wear gloves. Like everyone else says it’s just more practical for picking up keys. etc. But, for decorating I think mittens are much cuter! I would love to win! I’ve heard of the Core’dinations paper but have never tried it before!

  • Hi Sarah! I just started following your blog (I spent days going through all of the archives!!) because my boyfriend and I recently ordered the cricut (he’s a teacher). I can’t wait til it arrives. I definitely go for gloves in the winter since my fingers feel too cooped up in mittens! Thanks!

  • Very cute card! I have to say mittens, although I only wear them when I am driving or cleaning snow/ice off my car. No gloves for me!

  • Can’t wait for your spellbinders video, I have a bunch but I hardly ever use them. I need to be enabled. I prefer to wear gloves so my fingers are free, but mittens are usually so much cuter. Have a great day … Thanks for all the information you give us.

  • I love both mittens and gloves. Mittens for outside fun such as skiing and building snowmen with the kiddies but I wear gloves for driving and shopping. So glad I found your site.

  • Mittens when I was a kid but gloves now that I am older. Maybe I should get a pair of mittens to make me feel like a kid again. : )

  • LOVE THE CARD!!!!!!!!! I am a glove person!!!! I have to be able to feel each finger. My hubby bought me a really cool pair that has a “touch pad” on the index fingers so you can text etc……………I LOVE THEM!!!!! They are even lined with cashmere…….Nice and toasty, just the way I like’em

  • Love those cute little mittens! I wear the type of gloves that have the mitten that goes over the top. They are great for cold Michigan winters! πŸ™‚

  • Oh well, for me I prefer gloves so I can do things like help my children button or zip their coats…but for my little man it melts my heart when he is all bundled up and has on mittens. Something so innocent about it, lol, yes I am very sentimental :o). Love the card so cute!!!

  • Living here in North Dakota and Minnesota I would have to say without any questions that mittins are the way to go….Love Love Love the card

  • When I am driving I perfer gloves but playing out in the snow with the kids I wear mittens. I love them both! Thanks for the chance to win more CS never have enought of it.

  • gr8 card! I hear ya about the simplicity, I sold my sizzix & dies & a bit of my other scrapbook supplies a few years back so I can buy my Big E, but I do miss the Sizzix sometimes.

I like gloves, because I can still use my fingers individually. Thanks for the opp to win!

  • What a cute card. I haven’t tried the Spellbinders yet, mostly because I can’t decide which I want most. As for mittens or gloves, I’m a fan of mittens. Putting them on makes me feel like a kid again.

  • Sarah – I love your card. Sooo stinkin’ cute. I would have to say I like the combo one…not sure what they are called. The one’s with the fingers cut out and the flap to put up over…maybe mitglove. πŸ™‚

  • I prefer gloves so that way I can move my lil fingers to do things. Love the card. Your work is always great! thanks for sharing & the chance to win.
    jennifer anderson

  • I LOVE your card!!! I like the mittens that are like gloves, you know the ones where U pull the mitten part back and u have the finger tips cut off of gloves so then U have the best of both. I can’t wait to use the paper,I haven’t seen it before I will look for it when I go to the city. I live 65 miles to the nearest craft store so there is a lot to look at when I go.

  • Mittens all the way!! There is something about bundling up on a cold day with a warm pair of homemade mittens =) I remember as a kid getting homemade mittens every year for Christmas in my stocking and I always loved them ( even when they were tacky colors)

  • I prefer gloves..but I prefer mittens on my kids. They are warmer than gloves. I don’t play in the snow so gloves work for me while driving.

  • Cute card. Love the paper and mittens. You are right, I just recently used Spellbinders and I am now hooked. I made a birthday card for my hubby yesterday and used them. I would have to go with gloves even thought mittens are really cute. I need to be able to move my fingers when I am doing things!

  • Very cute card! I love Coredinations paper too. It’s the best! And I prefer mittens becuase they are so adorable and make me think of winter as a kid wearing my mittens too.
    Thanks for sharing!

  • Mittens for card making projects, definately! Mittens for keeping your hands cozy warm a must!!! Wearing gloves makes for more practical use! Cute card! Loving your cute and cozy project!

  • I still like to use my dies too. Sometimes it’s just easier that way. I can remember wearing mittens as a child, but now I prefer gloves – I guess we all have to grow up sooner or later.

  • Oh, definitely gloves! Although, I am not sure if I have ever owned a pair of mittens, so maybe i should give them a try!

  • Thanks for sharing such a cute card. I haven’t worn mittens since I was a kid. I tend to wear gloves but only if it is extremely cold outside.

  • Thanks for sharing such a cute card. I haven’t worn mitten since I was a kid. I only wear gloves if it is extremely cold outside.

  • I prefer gloves as I like to have my fingers free!!! I don’t like to have to take off a mitten everytime I need to use a finger for something! BTW, what do you do with all the your wonderful creations?

  • I am a glove girl! Up here in Alaska our gloves are very important. I always carry a pair in the car with me because you just never know! BTW I love love live Core’dinations paper!!!

  • After anxiously awaiting, I see you made another beautiful card. I too love to go back and forth between manual dies and my machines. I prefer gloves, nice soft leather gloves. I still love the mittens on my daugther though. I love Core’dinations papers too!! Thanks for the opportunity to win. πŸ™‚

  • I love your card, it is simply adorable!! I like glove because I can’t grabs thing as well with mittens.. Thanks for the chance to win..

  • I love my gloves for driving when it’s cold outside…but when I’m just hanging with the family outside I’ll haul out my mittens…When I’m crafting/scrapping I just love the look of mittens “hands down”!

  • Depends on what I’m doing. Mittens are warmer if I’m walking or standing for any length of time. If I’m trying to hang on to something or manipulate something I prefer gloves. Can’t drive with mittens even the leather palmed ones because I can’t move my fingers individually.

  • I would have to go with gloves. I just feel like I can’t do anything with mittens on. And if you are having a snowball fight, you just can’t get a good snowball with mittens on! lol

  • OH it has to be glove here in Alaska! You can’t grip the snow shovel or snow blower as well in mittens as you can with gloves.
Oh, and I ADORE Coredinations paper!!! I’ve used it many times and would so love to win some more to play with!!

  • Mama LoveBug here – I love the mittens! So cute!! As for Core’dinatiions cardstock, I can’t say enough – you can tear it, sand it, die cut it, and more – I first used it for paper doll clothes for my cards but have now used it for frames and embellishments. It’s wonderful!

  • I prefer gloves! Mittens are cute, but not practical when you have kids! Im sure you understand! LOL
Cute card and I love coorddinations paper it cuts like butter! oooo la la
    thanks for the giveaway

  • Hey Sarah! Super cute card! And I know exactly what you mean about the manual die cutting! I have just recently started using my cuttlebug with the few dies I have, but I love it, and definitely want MORE! I have been really wanting to start collecting Spellbinders, but have been putting it off since I have my cricut and gypsy that can cut most shapes, but using a die just seems so much easier! I can’t wait to see more in the blog hop!
Oh, and as far as mittens or gloves, I’m not sure the difference?? Is it that one has fingers seperated and one has all fingers together?? Being raised in Florida, there isn’t much of a need, but I think the one with your fingers all together would make it hard to do much while wearing them!

  • Your card is so cute and I so appreciate your videos!
I wear gloves… I like mittens…but I find it easier to do things while wearing
gloves! My hands are always cold in the winter!

  • What a cute card. I like gloves better for me. But if I am trying to dress an grandchild for the cold outdoors, mittens are so much easier.

  • So cute Sarah. I too understand what you mean! I wouldn’t trade my cricut in for anything, but I found that I needed something that I could emboss with as well as use in a pinch when I didn’t want to find just the right cart, drag out my cricut (if it wasn’t already out) so at CKC this past week I pick up the Epic 6 machine. Well I ordered it should be here very soon. Plus it comes with letter press as well. Can’t wait to get it and start playing around.
I too prefer a nice warm pair of gloves, snow in our forcast for the weekend.. Might hit the mountain and play in some!!

  • Great card. I prefer gloves. I just love to keep my hands cozy and warm but too bad it doesn’t snow here in Hawaii and it doesn’t get that cold to be wearing gloves here.

  • I have recently moved to mittens, the Vancouver Olympic mittens are so warm that even though it doesn’t get that cold here in Vancouver, I just can’t help but where them!

  • Your card is darling…and I love Spellbinders…I have a few of them but not this!…I prefer gloves and I have several pairs, which one is leather and easier to drive with but then I have others regular and a set with tips cut off but yet stitched on to put back on ..pretty cool..thanks for sharing today!

  • A great card! I prefer wearing gloves, when making cards or projects , use mittens! TFS I like idea of not having to use electronics all time also! When I go on truck trips with hubby take cuttle bug & use quick cuts in it, works fine! Crafting with no electricty!

  • It depends! If I’m throwing snowballs at my hubby I want my mittens πŸ™‚ But if I have to drive and do responsible “mom” stuff then I wear my gloves. But I do LOVE my warm cozy mittens πŸ™‚

  • I love your card! It is just so cute! Well, I would have to say gloves just because it is more practical. But when I am out just walking I love mittens. Thank you so much for the chance to win. Have a great day! lindagk23

  • Gloves – hands down (no pun intended). I want to be able to use all my fingers. πŸ˜‰

I can’t wait to see your Spellbinders video tomorrow. I was wondering how they would work in my Big Shot. Can’t wait to see.

  • You may just have inspired me to drag out my Sizzix!! I loved it way back when but it has definitley taken a backseat now that I have an Expression and a Gypsy. I ALWAYS wear mittens! There are so many fun ones out there and besides that, gloves make my fingers freeze!!

  • Girl, I love my gloves for driving or working out in the cold but when it comes time for the snowball fight… gotta have my mittens!

I love the Big Shot and would have to say I am gonna have to go out and purchase one. It was just so quick and easy and cut so perfectly. I had too much fun playing with it.

Love Love Love the paper, pick me, pick me! πŸ™‚

  • I love gloves. I think I own about 23 million pairs and will probably still buy more this winter. Mittens don’t allow me the dexterity I need and besides, I feel Like once you put me in mittens, you might as well follow it with a straight jacket too!!!

  • mittens all the way for me! im even tempted to attach some pretty ribbon to mine so i can thread them through my jacket just like when i was kid lol

  • Cute cute card. I am a glove over mitten lover. I like my fingers to be able to work independantly yet still stay warm. But for purposes of cards, I prefer mittens. Love the shoes on the Core’ Couture paper pad. Are those out of paper, or the real thing I wonder? I wish spellbinders had made a left and a right mitten in this set. No paper crafter should have two left hands (or right hands in this case). HA HA!!!!

  • Cute card Sarah!!!! I too love Spellbinders and have quite the collection that I use with my cute lil Cuttlebug! Love that thing! I prefer Gloves! I live in Michigan and I have to wear them when I drive!!!! Looking forwards to tomorrow!!!! Thanks!

  • I love gloves. I have to have my fingers free to do what I want. I am not much for bulky winter coats or gloves. I wear a sweat jacket and a flannel jacket all winter long πŸ˜‰

The core’dinations paper is awesome! And I do love how the mittens really look like they were sewn!

TFS & the chance to win!

  • Living in HI, I am not sure what I would prefer, but I think if I had to choose it would be gloves. I don’t think I would like the feeling of not having “fingers.”

Thanks for all the give-aways and great ideas. Love your blog.
    Cyn in HI

  • Sarah,
Your card is adorable! I prefer gloves so I can do other things while keeping my fingers warm. But this year I’m looking for a cute pair of mittens. They just look so cute! I don’t have any Core’dinations paper and would love to own some. Thanks for the chance. -Nicole

  • It depends on what I ma doing. If I am doing something that I need to use fingers I like gloves. If I don’t need to use fingers I perfer mittens. I think they keep your hands so much warmer.

  • I prefer mittens but always buy and wear gloves. Go figure! Thanks for the opportunity to win, you can never have enough Paper!

  • I’m going to be one of the odd ones. I love mittens. Especially my ski mittens. When trying to get snow off the car they work so well. Never could find gloves that kept my hands warm. I love your cards. Thanks for all the inspiration.

  • Both..gloves if I am just out and about to run errands, go to work etc and mittens when out playing with the kids as keeping my fingers by each other helps keep my hands warm…
Thanks for the chance to win.
    cjtj1999 at hotmail dot com

  • Really cute card and so easy. I prefer gloves if I am driving or shopping, but if I am out in the cold or snow, I prefer mittens as they are warmer. I would love to win the paper pack, Core’dinations is my favorite. Thanks for the opportunity to win the paper.

  • I love your cute card! Thank you for sharing your video! I love my mittens but I usually wear gloves because they are more practical.

  • Adorable card, it is sometimes nice to go back to our basics. Thanks for sharing your ideas and the video. For me it has to be gloves, I just find mittens to fiddly.
    Kim xXx

  • Mittens are so much more fun! And the kind with the flipback half flap so you can get your fingers out are one of the great inventions ever.

  • I prefer the dexterity of gloves. I bought some mittens that you can fold back the fingertips of the mitten to reveal gloves with the fingertips cut off. They work great if you have to do a job like handing out flyers and you need your fingertips to separate the pages of paper to hand out one flyer. The rest of your hand stays warm. All you have to to is fold back the tips of the mittens to have your whole hand covered.

  • Sarah,
Cute card. I like gloves over mittens because they allow you to do so much more with your hands. Thanks for the cool give-away. Fingers crossed.
