My first DSLR, the Nikon 3100. I researched for weeks and weeks before deciding on which camera to go with- for my first DSLR. I was torn between the Canon Rebel or the 3100. The 3100 was a new edition to the 3000, and had updates that were not available on it’s big brother the Nikon 5000. So, I decided that I’d be a Nikon user I LOVE IT! And, I only wish that I had purchased my DSLR when my kids were still babies- I regret not being able to take better photos of those quick baby years! So, if you are a mom and are deciding on whether or not you want to bite the bullet and spend a few hundred more than you would on a point and shoot– I say, Go for it! 100% You’ll never regret it. Okay–I bought the 3100 in July of 2011, and these are the lenses I’ve added to my collection.
Nikon 35mm f/1.8G AF-S DX
This lens is GREAT for those blurry background pictures (bokeh) It’s great for taking portraits and pictures of those craft projects! It’s good if you want to toy around with semi-macro photography as well. Definitely my favorite lens–and at a GREAT price point- for $199. I also added a small zoom lens to my collection- but do not use at as much as my prime 35mm lens above. I am just not taking pictures where I need to zoom in too much as of yet–but, I am sure I will need it from time to time.
